Recording: SONY PMW350 HIGH DEFINITION 2/3 inch 3-Chip camera in use since November 2010
Ever since November 2006 ALL productions are shot on HIGH DEFINITION and starting November 2010 this happens with a Sony PMW350 XDCAM EX camera.
This camera features the three most light sensitive, lowest noise 2/3 inch CMOS sensors currently available in broadcastcamera's and records onto solid state memorycards. Therefore there are no longer any moving parts inside the camerabody and as a result the powerconsumption is very low. The camera can run for more than 7 hours on 1 battery and the memorycapacity we use as a standard also surpasses the 7 hours.
The high sensitivity, combined with the lowest s/n ratio (for insiders: F13 at 59dB) makes this camera the defacto standard for recordings under extreme lowlight conditions. Of course for outside evening shots, but also lowlit auditoriums and other dark environments come to mind. Gainboost up to 12dB is virtually invisible! Of course we use additional lighting where applicable and possible, but in some cases you'll just have to make do with what you've got. And this is the best to have!
Wrong takes can easily be erased so no unnecessary video has te be sorted out during editing. Erronous takes can also be deleted later on insided the camera, or good takes can have an OK marker added to them.
The camera is capable of recording up to 4 audiochannels simultaneously That may be microphone channels, but can also be line-audio channels. We have outfitted the camera as standard with a wireless diversity receiver by which either a handheld or a lavalier wireless mic can be received. If needed a second receiver can be fitted, capable of receiving two extra wireless mics. So a total of 4 wireless mics can be recorded. The last remaining channel is then used for the cameramicrophone which in that case records only an ambience track which later can be mixed in during editing if that's needed.
And obviously there are various recording settings to choose from, all in HD. Normally we'll film in 1080i 50Hz, but should the need arise we can also switch to the USA 1080i 60Hz norm, or 1080/24P, 25P and 30P. The highest available recordinglevel of the build-in codecs is 4:2:0 35Mb/sec.
However, this camera offers the opportunity to record even beyond that by means of adding a seperate available external recordingdevice, known as the Nanoflash. Deze device offers recording in the much higher format of 4:2:2 50//100/180Mb/sec at your beg and call.
The big advantage lies in the availability of more data in the recorded signal, even surpassing the broadcast demands of the BBC and "Hilversum" (the Dutch Broadcast city). Thanks to this way of recording even purer images are available in editing. This really pays off when pulling keys from Greenscreen footage and during colorcorrection"Greenscreen" recordings are shots taken for a green or blue backdrop which color is removed during the editing process and replaced for any video, photo or CG Image that's needed. Reading texts can be done by use of a teleprompter (a.k.a. "autocue"). The teleprompter projects the text in front of the cameralens so the talent can speak his or her lines while still looking at the camera and therefore keep in touch with the audience.

Editing:
Editing is done in HD on the latest (aug. 2010) dedicated editing system, build and optimized to get the most out of Adobe CS5 Production Suite. Running on a i7-980 Hexacore processor and 24GB of available memory on the Windows 7 64-bit platform, this system can finish several tasks simultaneously and complex editings can now be made faster then ever before.
Also this system is capable of working with almost any videofile you can throw at it. From HDV to AVCHD, HDSLR and even RED 4K files can all be edited immediately in real time without any prior conversion whatsoever.
When editing is completed the program is rendered to the desired format. This can be Blu-Ray HD disc, DVD or a webstream like FLV or H.264/MP4. As long as you know where you want to use it, we'll provide you with the right choice of codec/stream/media.By using the XDCAM EX system ingestion of the raw videofiles is much quicker also. This is now merely filetransfer: the XDCAM EX Cards are read by the computer like any external harddisc. Therefore editing can commence immediately and doesn't have to wait on the transfer process to finish..
In some situations editing in the field is necessary. Think of journals of events which need to be shown on the same event, or PR stunts which need to be online on YouTube, Facebook or others social media sites as soon as possible. In these cases we use a very fast laptop with a QuadCore processor running Adobe CS5 Production Suite and some of the most popular plug-ins.
This provides us the tools to get our customers a high quality editing experience in the field in full HD quality.
On the distribution side:
Most productions end up on DVD (Standard Definition) or webstreams in various formats. We advise the use of the Flash-video format for webuse.DVD's can be burned and printed. High quantities of CD's and DVD's are available on request.
From 500 pieces onwards discs are being pressed rather then burned and are then 100% equal to the discs you purchase in shops.If you want to get the maximal potential from your production we can delivery it in Hight Definition on a Blu-Ray disc, or make any HD Stream you might need.
In all stages of pre- en post production u, or someone from your company, can be present.
